80% of those who claim to be bisexual on the net… Might be lying

Today sexuality is viewed from another perspective. In other times, if a person was bisexual or gay, it could trigger major conflicts and problems in their life. Thankfully, our times are a bit more accepting and these issues are dealt with in everyday life with more normality and tolerance. However, there are still some environments where it is difficult for people to come out of the closet.  Now a new study on Ok cupid shows that at least in the world of online dating, some people are still afraid to come out as gay.

According to their study, it appears that people lie more than they would like to. Users of the social network say they are, on average, five inches taller than they actually are and earn 20% more than they actually do. Often the pictures on their profiles are old and do not represent reality.

One of the things I noticed is that 80% of people who claim to be bisexual are actually only interested in one gender. How did this fact come to light? They measured how many messages were sent to participants, and how many messages were answered. Most who said they were bisexual responded only to men or women, not both genders, indicating their true romantic interests.

This study means that on many online platforms, many homosexuals feel the need to hide their true sexual orientation, as for some reason, though they might be interested only in people of the same gender, they say they are  interested in both. The breakdown was very different by gender; among men who called themselves bisexual, most responded only to messages from men. But if we focus on the female gender, 12% of those under 35 claimed to be bisexual, but in reality only 1 in 4actually responded to messages from women.

If you want to meet new people with a very liberal thinking you can rent apartments in Lisbon, a city with much cultural diversity where you will, without doubt, enjoy the company of real people, not “user-generated profiles”.
