Lisbon is a very charming city, especially because of its neighborhoods that give it that special character. One of those areas is Alfama, and can be seen in all its dimensions from the Tagus. It has a complete network of narrow streets where we can find the famous Castelo de São Jorge.

Known for holding the best San Antonio’s parties in, which take place on the 12th and 13th of June for being the epicenter of the fado, this area was the Arabs settled due to its particular geography that facilitated their defense. It was them who laid out the streets according to the kasbahs urban system, with streets and staircases that lead to the Castelo.

This is the oldest district of Lisbon, its name comes from Arabic word al hamma that means bathrooms or fountain, it was named like that because the district is located on a geological fault that produces hot springs that were used as public medicinal baths since the seventeenth century until the early decades the last century.

While its streets are a challenge to gravity, this is a part of the city is great to walk, but if you are not that active person, you have always the option to take tram No. 12 that will drop you in front of the Castelo Praça da Figueira.

Alfama was the area where the rich and the powerful used to reside, but during the Middle Ages, they started to move, leaving the area for fishermen and workers and later it became a working class neighborhood. During the 70’s and 80’s the deterioration of the area reached unsustainable levels that forced the government to intervene, making it one of the safest in Lisbon.

In its streets you can see the history of the city, since it has places like the Castelo de São Jorge, which was built by King Alfonso Henrique to house the royal family. In the fourteenth century King Manuel I, made it a prison and built an ostentatious palace at Praça do Comercio.

There is also Casa dos Bicos built by Bras de Albuquerque, son of the Viceroy of India Alfonso Albuquerque. The house has a carved stone façade and windows with different sizes and shapes.

Another interesting place to visit is the Palacio Azurara, where the Museum of Decorative Arts is located, the same that was bought by the banker Ricardo do Espirito Santo Silva in 1947 and donated to preserved furniture, textiles and decorative art objects.

But Alfama is much more than buildings and museums; it is life to those who walk the streets, cafes and restaurants at the sound of live Fado, or just in the bars that sell grilled sardines.

One of the most favorite spots of the area is Taverna do Embuçado, located in Beco dos Cortumes, its specialty is the Portuguese typical food, which also has good fado singers. But if your finances are bad in this area you can find small castiças, which are houses/restaurants where people sing fado and eat cod.

The Delphinidae, better known as dolphins, are cetaceans and have 34 different species. It is said that these aquatic mammals are one of the wonders of nature because they have a highly developed intelligence and a special closeness with humans.

The beauty and docility of these animals makes them a target for hunters who capture them for use in circuses and aquatic centers. And since there are now also a number of behavioral therapies conducted with dolphins, they are very sought-after animals.

If you enjoy seeing dolphins pirouetting in a captive environment, you could visit the Lisbon Zoo, which has a dolphin and a seal that make audiences laugh with their stunts. This zoo, which is considered to be one of the best inEurope, has dolphin shows as part of the park’s annual program. The park and dolphin activities are suitable for all age groups. It is located at Estrada de Benfica 158 -160.

If you would like to see dolphins in a natural environment and have planned to spend your holidays inLisbon, there are many great views and entertaining tours to enjoy the dolphins of theAtlantic.

The nature reserve of the Sado Estuary has enormous biodiversity, including Bottlenose dolphins, which are only found in this part ofPortugaland are the only ones in the world. Their habitat is located two miles offshore. They are extremely friendly with visitors who come to see the natural wonders of this area.

In order to meet these dancers of the sea, you can take a catamaran cruise that crosses the Sado Estuary, allowing you to see the colony of 30 dolphins playing, moving, feeding and going about their other natural behaviors. To go on this trip there are two options – one lasts only a few hours and the other lasts an entire day. With the second option one goes directly to Setúbal to view the dolphins, and then on an excursion to the Arrábida area, and it finishes with entertaining panoramas that offer the perfect ending to a day-long encounter with nature.

The catamaran NaturWay ofLisbon includes a dolphin sighting trip in the morning, a Jeep ride in theArrábidaNaturalPark, where there will be special activities, and then an afternoon trip toCapeEspichel.

Inside Lisbon conducts trips of the Sado Estuary by catamaran, then offers fun activities in theArrábidaNaturalPark, a walk through Azeitao, and ends with a wine tasting in the cellars of the Manor House Museum of José Maria de Fonseca.

There are many people who travel to Sado Estuary to experience the thrill of swimming with the dolphins in the open waters, daring to play with them in their own environment, to relax and have fun interacting with these affectionate and communicative beings. It is said that one of the newer forms of de-stressing is to swim with dolphins, since their acoustic emissions, sonic or ultrasonic, harmonize and activate brain areas.

Most of us have gone through some kind of infidelity in our love life, we have cheated or somebody cheated on us. But, what should you do after such an experience? It is known that infidelity can leave indelible marks in couples, and even destroy them. The reasons for cheating are many, from the monotony in the couple, the desire to meet new lovers and new pleasures live, the passing of time, loss of physical attraction and emotional distance, simply excessive sex drive, etc. Finding out that someone has cheated on us can be one of the biggest disappointments we could experience. The trust you had on another person simply vanishes, and more questions and uncertainties arise while leaving a bitter taste in our mouth: Am I no longer attractive? Could it be that I did something wrong? Feelings of guilt and depression come together.

The first step to control a case of infidelity is to recognize the root of the problem and the situation is not necessarily the result of a decay of passion, but a set of factors that can go from the sharing, communication and interest in the beloved. Often it is not only the fault of one of the members of the couple. Engage in an attentive dialogue about the real reasons of this situation can lead you to a better understanding of the situation for both, not necessarily to address the causes of infidelity, but for better understanding of the behavior of both partners individually.

Usually, the confession of infidelity is the most traumatic for both the unfaithful to the other person. The burden of guilt that leads to a confession of this kind can affect in a very drastic way the link between the two people. In other words, if you are a cheater, be careful how you express the reasons of your infidelity to your partner, because they could profoundly affect him/her, perhaps even forever. If you have cheated, and feel so guilty, sometimes it is preferable to go to a therapist or a counseling service before confessing your lover. The insecurities that can be unleashed on the other, can dramatically affect the emotional bonds that can be develop later with other people. If you really consider the other person, take the necessary time to handle the problem, so that she or he may be less affected by your infidelity.

When talking about relationship issues, there are no formulas; every relationship is a vast and complex world. Nothing better than being honest with each other and above all, being honest with yourself, before taking any decision that could radically affect and the person we love.

Cheating may cause drastic changes in our lives. However, get Lisbon accommodation and try to discover a new way of life with your partner, let the warmth of this city fire your purest love.

After playing on various stages in the UK (Manchester, Dublin or London), the American band The Magnetic Fields lands in Portugal with two shows in a row without barely taking a break. The first gig takes place on May 1 in the Suggia club of Porto and a day later, on the second day, the gig is repeated at the Teatro Maria Matos in Lisbon. The European tour continues at the Sala Apolo in Barcelona on May 6.

The Magnetic Fields in concert

“Love at the Bottom of the Sea” is the suggestive title of the last album (the eleventh one ) of this New York group formed in 1991 who blend a unique style that include a mix of bohemian “underground” sounds of the controversial seventies and is heir to the clanging disco sound of the eighties. The international tour of the same name as the album will give fans of this group the opportunity to enjoy live music by Stephin Merritt, John Woo, Sam Davol and Claudia Gonson who will be will in concert in the Teatro Maria Matos in Lisbon.

In the YouTube video that I attach you can hear one of the themes of the album, entitled “Your Girlfriend’s Face”, with the sole accompaniment of a ukulele, an instrument (halfway between folksy and a toy) very dear to this group and which was exploited in full potential in the well-known triple album “69 songs”.

Teatro Maria Matos in Lisbon

Well, this mix of pop, rock, mellow songs, that even remember deep country music of the United States is the music fans will enjoy by this veteran group on May 2 at the Teatro Maria Matos in Lisbon, a scenario that wants to be an alternative bet uniting all the arts.

And when we say all the arts we mean those that lend themselves to be staged, since in this venue you can find a cycle designed for children, an avant-garde drama or an international conferences on topical issues, as well as music of all shades, thus making room for new artistic expressions that do not fit into a specific genre. This is what early decades of the century did, dominated by the rapid intercommunication of data that favors Web 2.0: that art is no longer at home in traditional boxes.

Remember that tickets can be purchased online to suit all budgets, including those suffering from the crisis, since the price of seats ranges from 12.50 to 25.00 euros. Use the link to read all the practical information http://www.teatromariamatos.pt/pt/programacao/calendario?day=2&month=5&year=2012&grelha=0. If you are not able to be that particular day at the concert of The Magnetic Fields, note that the Maria Matos Theatre program is extremely varied.

Social networks have given us a new way of understanding the internet. Not only do we share daily information with these tools, but also with ourselves, we become producers of information, data, music and photography. The knowledge thus becomes a viral phenomenon that is spreading everywhere and in all languages. Tools like Facebook and Twitter are not yet public domain, they are services that have billionaire owners . However, the usefulness of these services has become so essential in ordinary life, that we need so little for both web services to become unconditional rights of each individual in the world.

And maybe that is what awaits us, imagine a future in which each individual is born with an amount of available gigs for the production of knowledge of all kinds, and in this mesh of free gigs in the network, he is further able to increase this capacity but without storage costs, having the ability to modify and change from any Internet server to another, also for free. All this does not seem impossible any longer nor it is far away in the future. Hence, programming is becoming more important every day in cyberspace.

Knowing programming can give us better ways to seek leverage in the web and in a general context learn more, set our own programs and applications without the need for intermediaries, and alternative forms of network communication, exploring the Darknet, sharing documents, etc.. If Anonymous has been a success in its recent operations against various websites, it is because thousands of users were working in these attacks, and to do so, many must be experts in programming. Only so many of these operations are carried out properly. Programming is a cultural phenomenon that has been brewing, and that undoubtedly will explode in the coming years and will be revolutionary.

If it is computer studies you seek, we recommend the prestigious University of Lisbon, whose department of computer science has received numerous awards, among them in the Descartes Prize and two awards for science by IBM. In this university, you can find other opportunities for study and investigation to develop your interest in computers, from short courses to some more intensive ones. Lisbon is a perfect city for studies and research. In this city you will find a diverse culture and rich history as well as places to share with other fans like you computing and programming tasks. Lisbon is a favorite destination for many young travelers in search of new adventures and romance. No doubt, Lisbon can be an exciting city for students from all over the world. Do not miss the opportunity to visit beautiful Lisbon in the spring.

Alexa Ray

Get Lisbon accommodation and discover this beautiful city full of art and culture. Lisbon is certainly an ideal city to discover more about programming studies and benefits of this career.

Nobody in the world has a perfect appearance. Those images of stylized, thin and sylph supermodels walking on catwalks with attitude and fashionable clothes, are constantly drilling our heads through publicity, while painting a different picture of what real people look like on the steets. We have been conditioned to believe that beauty has everything to do with being thin, bordering on anorexia, that both men and women should be attractive and always in shape. Of course, one thing is health and other a few extra kilos, obesity and excessive weight loss. Being fit does not mean being extremely thin. You can actually be somehow chubby and fit at the same time, while being attractive to your couple.

Sensuality is not measured by the kilos; it is measured by the grace and charisma with which they are carried. Some urban myths say that people with a few extra kilos are generally happier, smile more and are constantly stimulated by the endorphins triggered in their brains thanks to the pleasure experimented when tasting different dishes in big quantities. There is no doubt, that food is one of the most important stimulants of sex and marital life, that both a delicious dinner, desserts or alcoholic beverages can make their way to sexual pleasure beyond any measure. Why then shouldn’t we trust in the refined food taste of a chubby before going to bed?

The beauty of a voluptuous body can be extremely exciting for men and women, an undoubtedly exciting and revealing experience. Thighs, breasts, arms, bellies and legs with a little extra weight are fascinating to touch and rub. These beautiful and large areas of skin and flesh are very sensitive, and cause many more pleasurable sensations for both partners. Everyone who has been with a chubby can’t deny having felt surrounded by the beautiful magnitude of a body always ready to pleasure and enjoyment.

Do not be fooled by advertising and fashion, nowadays having a few extra kilos has a lot of sexy and provocative and especially in a city like Lisbon, whose cultural attractions, culinary, public spaces and nature are an open window for all your senses. If you have some extra kilos, don’t let that to stop you from being risky in love, as well as in your lifestyle. The most important aspect of a love relationship is the mutual understanding of you sensuality, which goes beyond what the department stores and brands want to offer. Discover the beauty and sensuality of your body; learn to love it, give it pleasure and take good care of it because your body is the transport that takes you throughout life.

How many times have you dreamt about eating fish that you’ve just pulled out of the sea or some river and tasting that flavour and smoothness of fresh fish? You can taste that same flavour without having to be standing for hours holding a fishing rod. You just have to go to the right place and choose the fish you’re going to eat. So here’s everything that you need to know about eating fresh fish if you’re in Lisbon.

There are restaurants that are all set so that you can choose the fish and how many of them you want to eat, although there are also the classic places where you don’t need to see the fish to know that its products are fresh from the sea, which we will tell you about now.

Mercado do Peixe is a restaurant where you can eat the best fish in Lisbon. The fish are at your disposal, you choose the fish that you prefer and the amount of them you want to eat. In the kitchen there’s a large grill where they put the fish with some salt and almost no seasoning. Everything is in sight so that your imagination and taste buds do their work. It’s an ideal place to go in a group but, however, the prices are a bit steep. It’s located on Estrada Pedro Teixeira 78.

If you want to go on a ride on a ferry (for 2€) and eat the best fresh fish 10 minutes from Lisbon, the Ponto Final restaurant is the right place to do so. Located on the other side of the Taugus, in Cacilhas, you can see how the fisherman arrive with the boxes of fish freshly taken out of the sea while you eat your freshly grilled fish and enjoy the view. Despite that they say that this place is a secret, don’t rely on that statement because its quality has already made it famous so go there in good time. Lunch or dinner costs more or less 30€ per person and it’s located on Rua do Ginjal 72.

Patio 13 is a restaurant where you can eat incredibly fresh fish without any pretensions, something which is to be grateful for when the flavour comes from the natural product. Its quality and cheap prices make it a very popular place, so you’ll always find people waiting for a table. The average cost per person is below 20€ and it’s located on Calçadinha Sto. Estevão 13.

Nune’s Real is a restaurant that boasts about its excellently-prepared fresh fish as well as its first-class service all day long. However, don’t let yourself be taken away by your emotions if they offer you to sample a platter of seafood while your fish is cooking. Whatever you do, don’t accept it because it costs 180€ and they don’t even tell you the price. It’s located on Rua Bartolomeu Dias 120, Belém, just 5 miles from the centre of Lisbon.

If you want to go to a beautiful beach location, there’s one just 30 minutes from Lisbon where you arrive by train on the shores of the Atlantic ocean heading towards Guincho. There, you’ll find lovely restaurants with fresh fish that’s deliciously prepared, such as the Restaurante Mar Do Guincho, which is located on Entrada do Guincho.

Until May 6 the Multipurpose and Temporary Exhibition rooms of the Modern Art Centre of the Calouste Gulbenkian, showcase the works of the collective art group A Kills B consisting of conceptual Portuguese artists Hugo João Ferro and Martins Canoilas who explore the conditions for developing creative processes.

The proposal of the artists this time is using the multipurpose room of the Modern Art Centre, to be carried away by a structural transformation of the space to create a proper theater area. The same action of transformation and recreation of this space, is the call to the imagery of theater and opera, or performing arts throughout its meaning with the construction of installations and sculptures.

A kills B activates the idea of the myth of Iphigenia and Isaac, two myth that reactivate the founding narratives of the Western culture It is a installation built on dialogue, which seeks to question the reformative status of the museum space. In the scene there are four players, four singers and musicians that triggers the perceptual and performative potential of the audience in it.

The group of artists A Kills B, was formed in 2007 and is composed of two very important figures of the new Portuguese art scene, Hugo João Ferro and Martins Canoilas. Their installations and art projects are full of irony and are reflection of the world around them, but it is also a bitter criticism on the art world itself in which they move. Their work has been featured in major art events as well as national and international exhibitions, like the art work Yellow Monochrome (2008), or the performance and installation for the Nam June Paik Art Center in South Korea and winning among others. the Third Painting Prize of the Ariane de Rothschild Painting Awards of Lisbon,

Canoilas Hugo was born in Lisbon in 1977, and lives in Portugal and Austria, he creates and works both individually and collectively. He has a degree in fine arts from the School of Arts and Design Caldas da Rainha and also supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian studied painting at the Royal College of Art in London between 2004 and 2006. His work is deep and thoughtful, with the power to give his art power to raise awareness and show sensitivity in the world around us.

João Ferro Martins was born in 1979 in Santarém, in recent years he has become a major figure in the new Portuguese art scene. His art studies began at the School of Superior Arts and Design Caldas da Rainha, specializing in painting, sculpture and photography. Since 2003 he lives and works in Lisbon. He has participated in numerous exhibitions and events with his works, installations, visual and audio interventions and performances.

James Morrison is one of those few artists who are lucky enough to have been discovered by a talent scout int he street, more specifically in the London Underground, where he sung songs of his favourite artists and won some extra money to help his tricky economic situation.

It’s almost incredible that for some artists it’s easy to record an album and escalate to the first places of the music charts and that it’s so difficult for others, almost an eternal struggle. What’s true is that if you have talent and a unique voice, things can work out very well for you on the romantic-pop scene, because there are a lot of people around the world who enjoy this musical style. James Morrison had both, talent and a unique voice, a perfect mix between the black and white voices of pop.

Morrison’s professional career began in 2005 when Polydor Production signed him as one of their artists. In 2006 he released his debut album, ‘Undiscovered’, which was well received by the critics, so much so that it made the #1 spot on the British charts. In 2008 he released his second album and with this one he went out to conquer the world, even though he had half his job done with his first album. The name of this second album is ‘Songs for You, Truths for Me’.

His third album was released in September 2011 and it’s with this album’s tour that he’s playing in Lisbon on the 27th of March at 9pm at the Coliseu dos Recreios. If you like James Morrison’s romantic music, this is a wonderful chance to travel to Lisbon, rent apartments and see this British solo artist live in early spring 2012.

It certainly is a good idea to eat delicious seafood at the beginning of spring, especially when you are on vacation and can take a pleasant nap to digest all you have consumed. Here we will give some info on where to enjoy it in Lisbon.

The Mariscada is a food preparation found in areas of the Mediterranean and Atlantic coast that includes various types of seafood, especially shellfish such as lobster, shrimp, barnacles, etc., It can be grilled, cooked or eaten raw and is served on a metal tray. Marsicada is also used to define dishes that carry in them plenty seafood and fish preparations. While there is no season for this dish, they are usually consumed during summer vacation and accompanied with plenty of wine or alcoholic beverages.

Lisbon is a city with sea water and fresh water, where seafood is part of their culinary habits and many traditional foods are among the ingredients. This is one reason why all the restaurants in this city on their menus offer Mariscadas along with other fish dishes like the Caldeiro.

While these dishes are not cheap and usually served in a very simply manner where the client must remove the shell of shellfish by hand, we recommend you to relax and enjoy the pleasure of eating these delicacies for is greater than the discomfort of getting your hands dirty.

A place to go when the weather is good is Ponto Final, a secret place for lovers of Seafood which is about 10 minutes from Lisbon by ferry. On sunny days you can eat outdoors and enjoy the best view of Lisbon as a backdrop. The wine list is very limited, but has good brands. No access by road is available and its address is Rua do Ginjal 72.

Dourado Sol Restaurant is another great alternative to eating delicious seafood meals. It has excellent seafood and is very fresh. Prices are somewhat high, but quality is incomparable. You can eat a rich Mariscada for two persons for 80 €, dessert and white wine are included. It is located at Rua Jardim do Regedor 19.

Cervejaria Ramiro is a place that is located on the ground floor and is not that well known, but has good seafood preparations and excellent beers. You can eat a Marsicada with green wine for two persons for 70 € . It does not require reservations. It is located on Avenida Almirante Reis 1.

Bica do Sapato is a restaurant that is located in an old converted warehouse in the Lisbon rivereña area and it is rumored that its owner is John Malkovich. Here you can enjoy a Mariscada on the terrace during the summer. Located on Avenida Infante D Henrique
