Indie Lisboa 2009 – 6th Independent Film Festival
From April 23rd to May 3rd the sixth edition of the Indie Lisboa, the Independent Film Festival of Lisbon will be celebrated. This is the most important independent cinema event in the country, whose main objective is to meet the most recent and interesting works of non commercial cinema from all over the world and to discover new directors.

At this year’s edition 200 feature films and short films will be shown that were edited between 2007 and 2008. Also, two of the biggest names of the union: the director, screenwriter and actor Jacques Nolot and the German filmmaker Werner Herzog will be honoured. Nolot will present a retrospective work with ten autobiographical tapes in which his peculiar sharp and iconoclast style is shown. Meanwhile, Herzog – one of the most illustrious directors of the new German cinema, will put on show 26 movies that range between fiction and documentary genres, including “The Enigma of Kasper Hauser” (“Jeder für sich und Gott gegen alle”), “Aguirre, the Wrath of God (Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes”) or “Fitzcarraldo”.
Keeping its attention on the author’s creativity and independence, in four years Indie Lisboa was able to become the most important Portuguese festival. The Director of the Venice Film Festival, Marco Müller, will join the Indie Lisboa’s Feature Film International Jury.
The movies in this year’s edition will compete in the feature film (Feature Film Grand Prize “City of Lisbon”) and short film sections (LG Short Film Grand Prize). In addition, there is a special prize for the promising newcomers of independent cinema (Indie Junior Award) and another one voted by the public (IndieJunior Audience Award).
Last year, the highest award of the Festival (City of Lisbon) went to the Thai production “Wonderful Town”, by Aditya Assarat. The Spanish filmmaker Jose Luis Guerin was honoured in the “Independent Hero” section.
