Lesboa Party: Carnival Party for Lesbians
Activity around Europe in favour of the LGBT community rights is quite broad. Around all the important European cities, among them Berlin, Madrid, Barcelona, Budapest and Rome, there are many festivals, conventions, seminars, art productions and investigation centers related to the LGBT community. Parties arent an exception. In a context of intolerance that seems to disperse with the years, its essential that activities of this type are carried out to settle the presence of the LGBY community inside the European community and the whole world. With the changes made in the last few years in different countries related to the acknowledgement of lesbian and gay couples inside the universal institution of matrimony, were facing a change of dynamics and thought on the diversity of gender. However, theres still a long way to go to come to equal rights for the LGBT community.
Despite that Europe is a place where the lesbian and gay community have made many advances in terms of rights, political presence and activism, there are still margins and differences regarding subjects such as social security, medical services and work rights that have to be addressed. Today, the phenomenon of social networks has managed that the knowledge of these subjects is spread even more around collective knowledge. Behind the Facebook like or the Twitter retweet, theres the diffusion of thought on many levels and destinations. The social networks contribute to the transmission of events, controversies and even images that criticize the intolerance thats presented facing the LGBT community, as well as other minorities, so that it arrives to indifferent attitudes and eyes. Any type of oppression or censorship in social networks cuts that flux of information. Thats why the LGBT community, like all internet users, have to be alert to new policies that are looking to be implemented to counteract the global activist phenomenon.
In equal measure, and as the saying goes IF I CANT DANCE, ITS NOT MY REVOLUTION!, the parties in the lesbian community are essential to generate more interest, community and real and virtual presence. The next Lesboa Party will be on the 18th of February, and what better way to dance to the revolution than in cyborg style. The future is today, and today is lesbic, and the cyborg is the identity of the future made reality, without gender, with freedom, dance and knowledge. Among the invited DJs this time around we can find Elof de Neve, Danny Verde and Phil Romano. The party will be at the Dental Medicine School of the University of Lisbon.
